SEA Strategy

With 100% electric vehicle sales continually growing, the cost of components and sub-systems have reduced substantially, allowing 100% electric commercial vehicles to become a commercially and economically viable alternative to its diesel equivalent.Further cost reductions, in lithium ion batteries (in particular), will allow this technology to become the “norm” in the very near future.

In 1983, 18-year-old Michael Dell left college to work full-time for the company he founded as a freshman, providing hard-drive upgrades to corporate customers.In a year’s time, Dell’s venture had $6 million in annual sales.In 1985, Dell changed his strategy to begin offering built-to-order computers.That year, the company generated $70 million in sales.Five years later, revenues had climbed to $500 million, and by the end of 2000, Dell’s revenues had topped an astounding $25 billion.The meteoric rise of Dell Computers was largely due to innovations in supply chain and manufacturing, but also due to the implementation of a novel distribution strategy.By carefully analysing and making strategic changes in the personal computer value chain, and by seizing on emerging market trends, Dell Inc. grew to dominate the PC market in less time than it takes many companies to launch their first product.

The key their success was virtual integration which can only be achieved when a market segment achieves a certain level of maturity in specialist component suppliers, which has very strong similarities to where the global EV industry is currently poised.Dell required a highly reliable supply of top-quality PC components, but management did not want to integrate backward to become its own parts manufacturer.Instead, the company sought to develop long-term relationships with select, name-brand PC component manufacturers.Precisely the same strategy as SEA.SEA are pioneering the introduction of innovative supply chain and assembly techniques to realise 100% electric commercial vehicles that have a lower TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) to an equivalent diesel commercial vehicle, in addition to sub-system IP development and whole design system patent applications.

To promote the three SEA-DriveTMsystems developed, SEA have obtained exclusive rights to three suitable, ADR compliant, donor vehicle platforms for the Australian and New Zealand markets:

  1. The SEA EV14 is a 14t GVM 100% electric cab chassis truck
  2. The SEA EV10 is an 10t GVM 100% electric cab chassis truck
  3. The SEA E4V is a 10.5m3100% electric van or minibus

SEA utilise Australian knowledge, research hubs and automotive suppliers to optimise and localise the range.This innovative supply chain and assembly technique, in conjunction with localisation and the creation of the flexible SEA-Drive™ driveline system, enables an extremely unique additional offering to the market.That is, for diesel fleets to be repowered with 100% electric SEA-Drive™ systems and refurbished for redeployment (if used), avoiding the sale of older generation (and higher emitting) diesel trucks into Australia’s second hand markets.
